The MDDA, SA Human RIghts Commission, Commission on Gender Equality, and the SABC are hosting a "Transformation, Gender & the Media Dialogue" in Johannesburg on the 19 October 2009. The organizers note that "The Media in South Africa is guilty both of failing to transform itself from a gender perspective and of perpetuating gender stereotypes" citing studies that women account for only 19% of known news sources in South Africa. with black women constituting only 5% of news sources.
