internet-and-newspapersJude Mathurine has produced a very interesting timeline that tracks the South African media crisis from November 2008, with particular focus on causes and changes in circulation, viewership and listenership of South African media. Major events include annual circulation declines for most print newspapers in range of ten percent, the R1 billion loss at the SABC that threatens the broadcaster and the TV production sector, Independent News and Media South Africa threatened by debt of parent company, niche magazines closures, declining advertising revenue for traditional media, retrenchments and restructuring at most major newspapers (Dispatch, Business Day, Independent, Naspers), and traditional media profit even in tough times.
